Hunt to trace thieves continues after car crash in Lowestoft

The hunt to trace thieves who stole the car that subsequently careered off a road in Lowestoft - causing significant damage - is ongoing.

Police are seeking witnesses and are appealing for information in connection with the early morning crash after the motorist fled from the scene.

A lamp post, telegraph pole and wall outside a home were all damaged as the crash caused "significant damage".

Lowestoft police officers, UK Power Networks officers and Highways officials were all called to Hillcrest Drive in the Gunton area of north Lowestoft on Wednesday, April 17 after police were alerted at 4.30am following reports that a "telegraph pole had fallen in the road."

With a damaged lamp post and damaged wall also discovered and a footpath cordoned off on Hillcrest Drive, subsequent inquiries led police to locate a white Ford Mondeo with "significant damage" in an alleyway between El Alamein Road and Mountbatten Road in Lowestoft.

The car is understood to have been stolen from Frostenden Crescent in the early hours - and was later found abandoned less than a mile away.

Now three months on from the crash, a police spokesman said this week: "Enquiries continue."
