Lowestoft Railway Bowls Club's men's over 60s teams had a rude awakening to the New Year with a double defeat at home and away to local rivals Acle.
The away team of Roger Flatt together with Ed Alcock, Pete Garnham and Pat Orsino were always struggling against a strong Acle side on a fast rink.
Although they kept in the match, they finally fell away by 23 shots to 15 at the finish.
The home match saw Brian Chilvers and his men – Bernie Earles, Terry Thacker and Ron Fulker - put in a spirited performance but a run of 11 shots against over four ends at the halfway stage condemned them to always playing catch up.
At the close Railway just came second by a couple of shots 16-18.
Once again Sunday morning sessions are available at 10am for guidance and assistance - with hot drinks available too.
