LOWESTOFT TOWN 2 NEW SALAMIS 0
Lowestoft Town had to wait until the third minute of added time before netting the goal that secured their victory over New Salamis in this Pitching In Isthmian League North Division clash.
For once manager Jamie Godbold had a full squad to select from and decided to keep the same side that had excelled against Stowmarket Town in their last game with Warren Burwood continuing in goal.
Lowestoft dominated from the start and could easily have had the game won inside the first 20 minutes.
Inside 70 seconds a first time drive from Kyle Haylock hit the Salamis’ crossbar.
In the fourth minute a flowing move down the left featuring Adam Hipperson and Owen Murphy ended with Jake Reed finding the back of the net but he had strayed marginally offside.
A 20-yard effort from Hipperson grazed the upright and Dylan Ruffles was denied by a goalline clearance by Albert Adu Donyinah.
It was not until the 20th minute that the visitors made their first foray into Trawlerboys territory but it ended with a tame shot from Taufee Skandari which Burwood collected easily.
Lowestoft should have taken the lead in the 33rd minute when David Hinton’s shrewd through ball released Reed who was brought down in the penalty area by Freddy Tandon.
However, Hipperson sent his spot kick the wrong side of the upright.
The second half started scrappily with New Salamis coming more into the game and it was the visitors who had their best chance of the game but Skandari’s fine strike brought an excellent diving save from Burwood.
Lowestoft eventually broke the deadlock in the 69th minute.
Travis Cole played a diagonal ball to Hipperson on the left and the winger took the ball to the byeline past Junior Luke and put it on a plate to give Reed a tap in from six yards.
Lowestoft were completely on top from thereon with Louis McIntosh denied by an excellent save by Emmanuel Olajide and Tandon heading a Haylock cross over his own bar.
Deep into ‘added time’ a pinpoint cross from McIntosh picked out Cole whose instant volley flashed past Alajide.
