An independent family run fabrication company that boasts more than 50 years of engineering experience is continuing to thrive in a "rejuvenated" sector.
Staff at Round House Limited in Lowestoft have welcomed Waveney MP Peter Aldous for a special visit.
Providing manufacturing services from 28,000sq ft of workshop space and purpose built offices at Pinbush Road on the South Lowestoft Industrial Estate, Mr Aldous visited Round House to find out more about what is going on in the fabrication sector.
Daniel Leggett, managing director of Round House, said: "The answer is rather a lot.
"The sector is feeling quite rejuvenated with the introduction in the last two years of huge upgrades in the welding equipment we have available to us - alongside Eastern Hardware’s fabulous industrial robot welding cell, which has been constructed through a collaboration between their computer science graduate, Sean, and an experienced mechanical designer.
"Round House also recently demonstrated three different Cobot (collaborative robots) welding trolleys, these cobots joining the workforce to augment the talented staff in the sector.
"We think it is absolutely essential to invest in all our staff, regardless of level, to ensure that everyone has the chance of becoming who they want to be."
Mr Aldous met one of Round House’s engineering ambassadors - apprentice machinist Beth Smith - who discussed her role, highlighting how important it is for young people and especially women to learn about welding as a career opportunity.
Mr Leggett said: "Mr Aldous spent time with the employees and saw how they're adding value to manufacturing in Lowestoft; his visit will have no doubt served as a reminder to the employees of how important they are to the sector and that their work is adding real value to the economy.
"Tremendous thanks to Mr Aldous for visiting us - it is fantastic to have such a supporter of the local infrastructure projects, such as the third crossing."
