A group that offers a motorcycle experience to sick and disabled adults and children is revving up for a new campaign.
The local charity 'Wish List Bikers' is understood to be the only organisation of its type in the country "offering such a comprehensive service" as it serves north Suffolk and south Norfolk.
Former Lowestoft doctor Keith Lightfoot, together with a group of other keen bikers, set up Wish List Bikers in 2018 - and in the first year 42 rides were carried out before they were impacted by the pandemic lockdowns.
But after relaunching its service in late 2021, the group is gearing up once more to raise funds to replace the special trike that fulfils passengers’ dreams of having a motorcycle experience.
A fundraising mission is under way as they aim to replace their trike with a newer model.
It comes as their current trike - which is a German built factory-made Rewaco model that has been specially adapted to accommodate people with a variety of conditions - needs updating with a trike that has a more modern engine and automatic transmission.
Dr Lightfoot said: "We are hoping to be able to buy a 1500cc Mitsubishi and have raised over half of the £40,000 cost to date."
Last Thursday the charity held a fundraising evening at the Royal Norfolk and Suffolk Yacht Club in Lowestoft.
Almost 80 guests - including Waveney MP Peter Aldous - enjoyed a fish and chip supper, fun, games, magician, raffle and piano maestro.
Dr Lightfoot added: "The evening was very successful, and we would like to thank those that attended to support our fundraising as we raised £2700 (on the night).
"We have four drivers and nine backup members.
"Each passenger rides with a carer or responsible adult.
"Passengers have come from day centres, residential homes, and schools as well as individuals as they range in age from four to 99-years-old.
"Wheelchair users can be accommodated, even those who require a hoist."
The controls are "half car and half bike," Dr Lightfoot explained, but "it provides a fantastic motorcycling experience."
