Roll Up, Roll Up! The Flea Circus is coming to Lowestoft

Organised by the Seagull Theatre, the historic High Street and Triangle Market area of Lowestoft will be transformed as the town travels back in time to the Victorian era for an 1880s themed weekend this Saturday and Sunday, September 9/10.

The event will also form part of the Heritage Open Days festival running throughout the town.

With Victorian characters - including John Louth Clemence and Charles Dickens - parading the streets, there will be live music, the Amazing Flea Circus and a Victorian magician.

Working in conjunction with East Suffolk Council and Historic England, as part of the Heritage Action Zone initiative, the event is supported by Lowestoft Town Council.

The Pakefield community theatre has previously organised two successful 1940s weekends in the London Road South area, and was due to originally stage this event in September last year.

Sadly due to the death of Queen Elizabeth the event was cancelled, but is now being restaged this year.

On Saturday and Sunday there will be a range of themed performances from 10am to 3pm.

Seagull manager Karen Read said: "We were so disappointed to not be able to stage last year’s event after so much planning and preparation, so we were determined to bring the event forward into 2023.

"We are thrilled that so many of the events we had planned last year have been able to be included this time around and we really hope people enjoy going back in time with us."

Visitors to the area will be able to witness an incredible flea circus, be amazed by a Victorian magician and hear the tales of the famous writer Charles Dickens.

Those who enjoy a sing-a-long will also be able to perform some music hall style songs and mix with an array of colourful Victorian characters.
