Two teenage boys arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of an 82-year-old woman have had their bail extended once more.

The teenagers, aged 14 and 15, answered bail on October 2 as police continue to investigate the murder of Joy Middleditch, who died after a masked robbery at her home in Pakefield, Lowestoft.

With inquiries "ongoing", the teens have had their bail period extended for the fourth time.

A murder investigation was launched more than six months ago after two masked robbers forced their way into Mrs Middleditch's home and knocked her to the ground, before stealing her handbag and fleeing.

The masked intruders left her injured and "helpless on the floor" of her bungalow on Grayson Avenue in Pakefield at some point overnight between Friday, March 24, and Saturday, March 25.

She died at the James Paget University Hospital in Gorleston on March 27 and a murder investigation was launched.

Senior officers described the attack as "callous and cowardly".

A manhunt was launched to find the masked raiders, prompting calls from Suffolk police for the public not to shield the raiders.

Two teenage boys, aged 14 and 15, were arrested on March 31 on suspicion of murder four days later and were taken to Martlesham for questioning.

They were later released on police bail until June 7, but this was extended to July 5, and then August 28 before they returned to police on October 2.

After answering bail, a police spokesman said: "The teenagers have been rebailed to October 30."
