People may be coming and going from Suffolk over the bank holiday weekend and half term and on a long trip sometimes you just want something more than a petrol station sandwich. 

Here are seven of the best places to eat along the A12 from Stratford St Mary to Lowestoft. 

1. The Pit Stop Cafe

Opening Hours: Monday to Friday from 7.30am to 2pm

In a layby near junction 30 for Stratford St Mary is The Pit Stop Cafe, which has some seats inside to eat in or food can be taken to go. 

The menu includes breakfasts, burgers and a range of hot and cold sandwiches and baguettes.

Opening hours: Daily from 12pm until 10pm

The restaurant offers a taste of Turkish cuisine with an open kitchen to see the food being prepared. 

Cappadocia also offers a fish and chip takeaway with a separate entrance to the main restaurant area.

3. The Ufford Crown

Opening hours: Wednesday to Saturday 12pm until 10.30pm (9pm on Sunday)

The Ufford Crown is highly rated having been named as one of the UK's best gastropubs by Estrella Damm in its top 100 list.

It has a spacious restaurant and bar for diners and a terrace which can be enjoyed in the warm summer weather.

4. Tate & Jack's Snack Bar

Opening hours: Monday to Friday from 8am until 3pm

Another small shack on the side of the A12 which has been running for just over three years. 

It serves a variety of hot food including breakfast baguettes and homemade sausage rolls.

5. The Fox Inn

Opening hours: Serving food daily from 12pm until 9pm

A traditional and family run pub serving a selection of local food and beers alongside regularly changing seasonal favourites. 

The team also run sister pub Poacher's Pocket located 4 miles up the A12 towards Saxmundham. 

6. Black Dog Deli

For those wanting a bite to eat the Black Dog Deli serves brunch and lunch as well as coffee all day. 

The deli also sells jams, chutneys and wines that can be taken back to enjoy at home.

7. East Point Pavilion
