Suffolk's largest short film festival is gearing up for its latest edition on the east coast.

Sunrise Film Festival has announced its selection and event lineup for the 2024 edition, revealing an impressive tally of 124 short films to be screened in Lowestoft.

Organisers say it marks a unique selection of diverse genres and styles, courtesy of filmmakers from across the nation and, for the first time, international filmmakers.

This year's festival was flooded with a record-breaking 460 submissions, strongly echoing last year's successful festival that attracted more than 1,800 attendees.

This year's highlights will include the opening night BFI Film Academy Scene Event, which will showcase three BFI-supported short films from East Anglia.

The evening's special guest will be the south east region BFI network talent executive, Thomas Wightman, along with Amit Kaur, director of Cuppa Chai, which will be screened at the event.

Audiences will also have the opportunity to engage with filmmakers in post-screening Q&A sessions across four select screenings.

An exhibition with the Lowestoft Central Project and Poetry People will also be offered, along with various free events throughout the festival weekend.

Ensuring inclusivity, the festival is bringing along family-friendly programming featuring animated shorts and interactive children's activities.

The festival will run from August 1 to 4, supported by the Lowestoft Town Council, and will be taking place at the  Marina Theatre in Lowestoft.

The festival enjoys the theatre's large screen, one of the largest on the East Anglian Coast.
