Three worn picnic benches in picturesque woodland have been replaced in Lowestoft.

Gunton and St Margarets councillors, George King and Graham Parker, contributed to the replacement of the old benches at Gunton Woodland.

The new benches, made from recycled plastic, are set on concrete foundations to ensure their longevity.

Gunton Woodland is a popular spot all year round, attracting local families, walking groups, and visitors from nearby attractions such as Gunton Hall Holiday Centre.

The addition of the benches is seen as an enhancement to the experience of exploring the area's 4,000 trees, scenic paths and pond.

Councillor King expressed his gratitude for the dedicated work of the Gunton Woodland Community Project (GWCP), which has been maintaining and restoring the area for over 20 years.

Mr King said: "I want to thank all the volunteers who continue to give their time and energy to making Gunton Woodland such a special place."

The GWCP has been instrumental in many improvements in Gunton Woodland.

This bench project, which received £1,498 from the councillors, is one of many initiatives by the GWCP to ensure the success of Gunton Woodland.

The group has a strong history of working with local schools, wildlife trusts, and other organisations, providing activities such as nature walks and pond dipping.

These initiatives aim to inspire a love for nature in the younger generation.

Mr King added: "A special mention goes to David Briggs, who has brought together a wonderful group of people, creating a strong community bond while ensuring everyone enjoys a good tea and cake after their hard work on Thursday mornings."
