People travelling on the region's trains faced widespread disruption this afternoon after a boat crashed into a swing bridge.

Greater Anglia services on the Norwich to Lowestoft line, passing through Reedham, were cancelled or diverted via Great Yarmouth following the incident.

The boat crashed into the Reedham swing bridge where it became stuck and wedged under the crossing.

Greater Anglia has apologised for any inconvenience caused by the disruption.

A spokesman added: "Network Rail response teams will be attending to investigate and examine the situation as well as any damage to the railway.

Travellers were able to catch local bus services in an attempt to avoid any major delays.

The bridge reopened at around 4pm with train services resuming to normal.
