Bungay Town have appointed former Diss Town head coach Michael King as their new manager.
The club moved quickly after the last game of the season to fill the gap left following the departure of Travis Manning in February, and the club’s head of football Richard Daniels was delighted to announce the experienced new leader this week.
Daniels said: "I am excited about the appointment.
"I tracked Kingy for two weeks after Travis left and he said he was staying at Waveney FC (who play in the Anglian Combination premier division) until the end of the season.
"Now we have signed him and as far as local football goes it is a big statement for this club.
"His cv speaks for itself and as head of football I am delighted that my first team will be in a safe pair of hands."
King, who is 39 and based in Lowestoft, said he had always been interested in Bungay Town and twice nearly signed as a player.
"The place speaks for itself – the facilities, the pitch and support, and I have always thought it was something I would be interested in," King said.
"They are ready to take off and just needed someone to do it."
King was at Diss from 2020 to 2022, a period when they finished in the top six in the Thurlow Nunn division one.
He then took on the job at Waveney, a club he was with initially as a player.
He has also played for Corton, Gorleston and Hearts of Oak.
"I cannot wait to get started,” he enthused.
"When it was finalised it was the first time in my football career that everything feels right."
He will assess the current squad, who finished eighth in the Anglian Combination division one in the season just ended, and conversations have already started about bringing in additional players to mount a serious challenge for promotion next season.
